The 15 standards within the course are:
Understand Your Role – For this standard, you will be able to name the code of conduct that relates to your role as well as be able to understand your rights and responsibilities as an employee and as a Health and Social Care worker.
Your Personal Development – For this standard, you will learn how to reflect on specific situations and will gain the skills and knowledge required to be able to successfully compile a PDP for continuing professional development.
Duty of Care – You’ll learn how to resolve arising issues within your role and how to approach, assess and reduce the risks surrounding conflicts. You will also learn your responsibilities around how to report accidents, incidents, near misses and safeguarding concerns.
Equality and Diversity – In this standard you will learn how to support individuals with different needs, beliefs and wishes. You will also learn what constitutes discrimination and how to avoid and discrimination in the workplace.
Work in a Person-Centered Way – In this standard you will learn how to approach individuals in a way that is individual to them such as with someone with communication difficulties, for example. Encouraging them to make autonomous decisions and respecting their preferences.
Communication – In this standard you will learn the barriers that face effective communication as well learning how to effectively overcome these barriers.
Privacy and Dignity – In this standard you will learn the importance of maintaining independence and self-esteem in the people you support and care for. You will also learn what legal duties you have relating to confidentiality along with the importance of involving each individual in the care planning and evaluation processes.
Fluids and Nutrition – In this standard you will learn the importance of maintaining a balanced and healthy diet, especially relating to elderly individuals.
Awareness of Mental Health, Dementia and Learning Disability – In this standard you will learn how to recognize and support individuals with a variety of mental health illnesses and learning disabilities. This standard will also provide information and knowledge for the relating Acts, Regulations and Legislation.
Safeguarding Adults – This standard will provide you the information, skills and knowledge to recognise safeguarding concerns as well as how to report them and who you should report them to. You will learn individual internal policies and procedures in your work place.
Safeguarding Children – This standard will provide you the information, skills and knowledge to recognise safeguarding concerns as well as how to report them and who you should report them to. You will learn individual internal policies and procedures in your work place.
Basic Life Support – In this standard you will learn the theory relating to being able to provide emergency life saving support to individuals. You will also learn what a DNAR is and where you can find them. Following this, your employer should arrange a practical session for you learn the life saving techniques such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Health and Safety – In this standard you will learn the legislation behind health and safety as well how to report concerns such as slips trips and falls. You will also learn the importance of remaining safe at work and the importance of dynamic risk assessing.
Handling Information – This standard has been designed to teach you how confidential documents should be managed, stored and written. You will the learn what GDPR is and how to document and report concerns.
Infection Prevention and Control – This standard will teach you how to manage risk within a care settings to reduce the likelihood of infections being spread. You will also learn the different types of transmission. Please see our Covid-19 course for specifics relating to the spread of coronavirus.
